Snygg is Al Stone and Al Stone, a husband and wife time who share the same name, as well as the same passion for unusual and iconic design from the 1950s-1980s.
The business came about as a result of their having collected too many things, and they’ll both happily tell you that they enjoy sourcing the items they sell as much as they enjoy selling them. Glass, ceramics, fabrics, lighting, furniture – they are all chosen with the Snygg style in mind.
They insist on being a bit different – most of their stock was made in Italy, Germany, France and Scandinavia in the Mid-Century period, so it’s not that easy to come by in the UK. So, they use an international network of contacts – as well as their own trips abroad – to find the kinds of items their customers keep coming back for.
Prices vary – you can find high-value collectors’ pieces at Snygg, but they do like to stock lower-priced but still unusual high-quality pieces that most people can afford.
Snygg specialise in making lampshades from vintage fabric, and will make shades to commission. Apart from the lampshades, all their stock is original vintage and they’ll happily tell you all about an item you might be interested in. They believe strongly in understanding the history of the things they sell, and they like their customers to know exactly what they are taking home.
Snygg are always looking for new and interesting items to buy, so don’t be afraid to bring your treasure in to the shop and have a chat.
By the way, ‘snygg’ means ‘good looking’ in Swedish.
